Garri Dance Studio, located in Burbank, California, was founded in 1958 by Peg Garri. Peg was a talented, well-rounded dancer working for many years as an MGM Stock Dancer alongside popular entertainers such as Shirley Temple and Donald O’connor. Miss Peggy left the performance world to pursue another dream; to open a dance studio with the intention of serving her community while allowing herself more time to spend with her family.
Garri Dance Studio's current artistic director, Megan Baade, is no new-comer to Garri Dance Studio. GDS has remained a second home for Megan since her first dance lesson at the age of three. After dancing at Garri Dance Studio for 15 years, under the instruction of various teachers including GDS founder, Peg Garri, Megan began teaching at several studios throughout the Los Angeles area, including Garri Dance Studio. Megan has performed in local, national, and international venues including her most recent MWR Tour throughout several Military Bases in Eastern Europe in 2002-2003. In 2004, Megan enthusiastically took the reins from the founder's daughter, Marybeth Costanzo, and immediately began pouring new energy and ideas into this already popular and loved Burbank Dance Studio. In 2007, 2011 and 2012, Megan Baade was honored to receive the Burbank Leader Reader's Choice award for "Best Dance Instructor". Garri Dance Studio was also voted "Best Dance Studio" under Megan's direction according to the Reader's Choice Poll in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
In September 2007, Garri Dance Studio moved into a new home conveniently located in Burbank, California in the heart of the beautiful Magnolia Park District. Megan thoughtfully designed and renovated the new studio facility to better suit the needs of her growing dance studio family. The new studio location offers three beautiful dance rooms with sprung wood dance floors, exposed brick, natural light, high beam ceilings and ample parking in the rear of the building. Parents and guests wait for their dancers in the studio lobby while viewing classes in progress on a closed circuit television system or shopping for dance necessities in the studio dance shop. Megan also implemented many new programs that run simultaneously providing many convenient options welcomed by studio families. Newly added programs include music, theatre, and specialty workshops for students of all ages and levels. A private music studio is located on site for one on one music instruction in piano, voice, guitar and more.
An exciting annual dance recital is just one of the many great events put on by Garri Dance Studio each year and is attended by studio families as well as local community members and Garri Dance Alumni. The 50th annual recital began Garri Dance Studio's on-going run at the Historic Alex Theatre in Glendale. Over the last several years, Garri Dance Studio has worked closely partnering with Burbank Unified School District and surrounding schools to provide California Standards Based Dance Classes and exciting after school programs for young students.
Garri Dance Studio truly has something for everyone! Peg Garri, Marybeth Costanzo, and Megan Baade have shared one common goal... to instill the love of dance within their students and to surround them in a positive environment where they can express themselves creatively and artistically. Garri Dance Studio's dynamic teaching staff is working hard to provide each and every student with all the necessary tools to enjoy dance and music for a lifetime!
